Thine be the Glory - Guilmant

Notes
The tune here is the Easter Resurrection hymn "Thine be the glory", providing a very suitable voluntary for a funeral - the piece starts quietly with a statement of the hymn, followed by a fugue which builds to a rousing climax.

The original words from Handel's oratorio Judas Maccabeus are "See, the conqu'ring hero comes!" - a hymn in thinly disguised praise of the Duke of Cumberland after the battle of Culloden, in which he extinguished the Scottish Jacobite rebellion.
