Wedding Music

The Prince of Denmark's March

This is an impressive piece, a call for the congregation to stand for the bride's entrance.

Full Title The Prince of Denmark's March by Jeremiah Clarke (c. 1674 – 1707)

Notes From the semi-opera The Island Princess, and often misattributed to Purcell. It is always a good idea to send a recording or sing a bit of this to your organist, to make sure you get the right Trumpet Tune.

Duration With any of the bridal entrance marches, any good organist will cut the piece to length, so that the bride is not standing for an unnecessarily long time at the front of the church.

Performers required

  • Trumpet accompanied by Organ or Piano
  • Organ alone
  • Piano alone

Source of printed music Organ arrangement (titled: "Purcell's" "Trumpet Voluntary") by Harvey Grace, published by Schott and Co., 1942.
