Gounod used to be very popular - sadly out of fashion. Perhaps this song can bring him back.
Full Title Entreat me not to leave thee (from The Song of Ruth) – Charles Gounod (1818-1893)
Notes A solo aria from the oratorio The Song Of Ruth. Perhaps a bit slow and sentimental for modern tastes, but if sung as if you mean it, it is very effective. As one would expect from a major composer like Gounod, it is well crafted - serious, solemn, as befitting a sacred subject, and rising to a grand ending.
Duration 5 minutes

And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee,
and to return from following after thee:
for whither thou goest, I will go;
and where thou lodgest, I will lodge:
thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
where thou diest, will I die,
and there will I be buried:
the LORD do so to me, and more also,
if aught but death part thee and me.
