Wedding Music

Prelude to the Te Deum

The trumpet issues a summons in this lively march.

Full Title Prelude to the Te Deum (H. 146) in D major by Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643 -1704)

Notes The words "Te Deum" mean "We praise thee, O God" - a church canticle. This instrumental movement is the prelude, so it is impressive and showy, as well as tuneful.

Duration With any of the bridal entrance marches, any good organist will cut the piece to length, so that the bride is not standing for an unnecessarily long time at the front of the church.

Performers required

  • Organ alone
  • Piano alone
  • Trumpet accompanied by Organ or Piano

Source of printed music Organ arrangement by Arthur Wills, published by Oecumuse, 1986.
